Radiology at Shippensburg Animal Hospital
Though our veterinarians perform thorough physical examinations, sometimes it is not possible to detect certain issues, such as fractures, or any internal signs of disease or illness. At Shippensburg, Mount Rock, and Allen Road Animal Hospital, our in-house radiology departments have x-ray machines, which we use to quickly diagnose problems not found through our routine physical examinations or blood tests. X-rays are a non-invasive method for veterinarians to closely inspect the skeletal system, spine, heart, lungs, abdomen, and skull.
One of the advantages of x-ray technology is that it gives veterinarians an accurate and non-invasive way to inspect an animal’s internal organs. Digital radiology even enables veterinarians to zoom in and out so they can see everything as clearly as possible. Once the images are acquired, our veterinary team will work together to review the results and make a proper diagnosis.
In some instances, we will need to sedate your pet in order to be certain they will remain completely still; this will enable us to be certain we can get the best and most clear view of the problem area.
If we are unable to make a proper diagnosis based off the x-ray images, our veterinarians may recommend further diagnostic imaging, such as ultrasounds or exploratory surgery.
